Death Cafe - First Sundays

Death Café is a gathering where open-minded people can come together to explore thoughts, dismantle taboos, and normalize the practice of talking about death; one heartfelt conversation at a time. It’s all about embracing the inevitability with a curious spirit and sparking dialogues that illuminate the art of living well by reflecting on our final curtain call. Here, with cups of tea and sweet desserts, we're rewriting the narrative on death and making every moment count with more zest for life.

While Death Cafe is not a grief support group, it is open to anyone interested in deepening their understanding and acceptance of matters related to death and dying.

Join us in the Ballard Alki Odd Fellows hall at 1706 NW Market St, Seattle, for conversation and camaraderie. We meet on the first Sunday of the month from 6:30-8:30.

Please note that space is limited and registration is required. Please email DeathCafeBallard@gmail.com to register, or if you have any questions.

Why Join the Odd Fellows?

Real talk: we're a 200+ year-old organization that's somehow still cool. Here's what you're getting into:

Your New Favorite People

You know how hard it is to make friends as an adult? We do!  And we solved that. Show up to a lodge meeting and suddenly you've got a whole crew - locally and literally around the world!

Do Good Things Without It Being Weird

Our motto is "visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, educate the orphan," which sounds intense but basically means: we show up for people. Food bank drives, fundraisers, helping out when someone's going through it. You'll make a difference.

Personal Growth

Our rituals and degrees teach about leadership, compassion, and being a better human. It's like a TED Talk series but with costumes and tradition. Famous members include: Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, William McKinley, and Warren G. Harding. Also Winston Churchill and King George IV of the United Kingdom, and Wyatt Earp, Charles Lindbergh, P.T. Barnum, Charlie Chaplin, Al Pinkerton, Casey Jones... and you?

Hang Out and Have a Good Time

Dinners, parties, movie nights, and more! It's the kind of stuff where you're genuinely excited to show up for. Everyone's welcome!

Bottom Line:

Join the Odd Fellows if you want community that feels real, friends who actually care, and a reason to be proud of how you spend your time. Plus, the parties are pretty great.

“Every part of this soil is sacred in the estimation of my people. Every hillside, every valley, every plain and grove, has been hallowed by some sad or happy event in days long vanished.” ~ Chief Seattle,1854

Our historic building is housed on the ancestral lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, in particular the Duwamish Tribe. To all Coast Salish Peoples we say, "We see you, we respect your right to sovereignty and self-determination, and we are committed to being better listeners, learners, and in lifting indigenous voices."
